This is impressively useful. If you have a blog that doesn't get much traffic, then reaching an audience will take time, unless you're exceptional, like ... ME :P (just kidding, I'm totally normal and stupid as anyone can be :) ). Anyhow, with Twitter you can publish a small text with powerful words and within minutes you can reach a much bigger audience within a shorter period.
Although you can do the same with a blog, but as said before, with a blog where we're controlled by search engines where human interacts aren't that powerful (at least they're not that "visible") ... but where there are a lot of people we can easily "get to them" using an online social networks.
But if you hate to always open your Web browser and log-in to Twitter every time you want to make a "tweet" and looking for a client or a front-end that runs on top of your desktop... then my friends few Spanish developers has something pretty cool!, it's called Turpial.
As mentioned it's a Twitter client that's written using Python programming language. And according to them, it's especially designed to be lightweight. So it won't take a lot of resources to run which is certainly good news if you want to preserve "some of" that battery of your GNU/Linux laptop.
Although I won't go into a lot of details about it... yet from a simple GUI to giving you the ability to spell check, access via proxy, automatic notifications, mute sounds, etc... it is pretty powerful nonetheless.
If you use Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, then you can install Turpial 1.5.0 by entering the below command in your Terminal window (should work in 10.10 and 10.04 as well).
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:effie-jayx/turpial
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install turpial
